What is SqlBak Preview?
SqlBak Preview is a new version of SqlBak that is currently in alpha testing. To understand why it exists, it helps to start with what SqlBak is.
What is SqlBak?
SqlBak is a backup automation service for databases. It helps you schedule backups, compress and encrypt backup files, send them to cloud storage, and monitor backup job results from a centralized web interface.
SqlBak supports SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and other major relational database systems. Depending on the database type and environment, you can configure different backup types, including full, differential, and transaction log backups.
SqlBak has been available for many years and is actively maintained by the team behind SQLBackupAndFTP, a widely used backup utility for Windows-based SQL Server environments.
The current stable version of SqlBak is available at sqlbak.com. This is the main production version used by existing customers.
Why SqlBak Preview exists
In parallel with supporting the current SqlBak product, we have been developing an updated version that is intended to fully replace the existing version in the future.
This new version is being built with the experience gained from operating the current SqlBak service, including the limitations and issues we have learned about over time. SqlBak Preview is also based on a modern cross-platform version of .NET, which gives us a stronger foundation for developing the product across different environments.
The goal of SqlBak Preview is to keep the core idea of SqlBak: centralized management of database backups, schedules, storage destinations, notifications, and job statuses, while rebuilding the product on a new technical foundation.
Where to find SqlBak Preview
SqlBak Preview is available on a separate site:
SqlBak Preview is separate from the current SqlBak product at sqlbak.com. Users of SqlBak Preview are separate from users of the current SqlBak service, so you can have an account in both systems.
Current status
SqlBak Preview is currently in alpha testing.
If you found this article, you are welcome to try SqlBak Preview and participate in the alpha test. During the alpha testing period, users will not be charged for using SqlBak Preview.
Because this is an alpha version, some features may be incomplete, change over time, or behave differently from the current production version of SqlBak.
