Agent Settings
What is the SqlBak Agent?
The SqlBak Agent is a lightweight background service installed on your server that performs scheduled database backups and restores. It connects to your SqlBak.com account, establishes secure connections to your DBMS, retrieves backup, maintenance and restore tasks configured in the web dashboard, and executes them automatically.
SqlBak supports both Windows (as a Windows Service) and Linux (as a systemd service), with a configuration tool available for each platform.
Where Agent settings are stored
The SqlBak Agent stores its local configuration in a SQLite database on the agent machine. This includes settings such as dashboard connection data, database source connections, and other local agent configuration.
Default locations:
Windows:
C:\ProgramData\pranas.net\sqlbak.net\SqlBakNetAppData.db
Linux and Docker:
/etc/sqlbak.net/SqlBakNetAppData.db
For Docker installations, mount /etc/sqlbak.net as a volume so the agent settings are preserved when the container is recreated or updated.
docker run -d --name sqlbak_agent -v sqlbak_data:/etc/sqlbak.net --restart unless-stopped pranasnet/sqlbak-agent:mssql
Password storage security
Important: Database passwords are stored only locally on the agent machine and are never transmitted to the SqlBak server.
This means only the agent has access to these credentials, ensuring maximum data privacy and security.
