Encryption
To encrypt your backups, enable the Encryption option and set a secure password. This will encrypt your .zip or .7z backup files using the AES-256 encryption algorithm.
SqlBak applies encryption during compression by embedding the password directly into the backup archive. The compression utilities (Zip/7-Zip) handle encryption using AES-256, one of the most widely trusted and secure encryption standards available.
If the Compression option is disabled but Encryption is enabled, compression will still be applied with the minimum compression ratio to allow encryption to take place.
If your backup storage is ever compromised and an encrypted archive falls into the hands of a malicious actor, the data remains protected—they would need to crack the password locally to access it. For this reason, it’s crucial that you choose a complex and lengthy password to maximize security.
